This past Friday, the varsity cross country team competed in the EIL Championship meet at Franklin Park. It was an uncomfortably hot day for running, about 70℉, which caused even the fastest runners in the league to slow down by almost a full minute. LCA captains Noah Torres and Will Hanley were close to leading the pack as they entered the last half mile–15th and 16th place respectively. The top 15 runners for boys and girls at EILs place and earn medals, so LCA’s top runners were close. However, both Will and Noah struggled with the heat at the end and unfortunately placed 17th and 22nd. The girls also had an unfortunate race, so overall, LCA placed last in both girls and boys out of the qualifying teams. Noah Torres commented, saying that “we performed subpar,” and that the team is “training hard, looking forward to NEPSTAs.” The final race of the season takes place this Saturday, November 12, in Connecticut, so cheer them on from home! Hopefully the team will be able to pull out a win.
